Facebook has acquired digital publishing start-up Push Pop Press, Ipad book publisher for an undisclosed amount on Tuesday. This news has raised few question-marks on motives behind the acquisition. However, both companies officially stated that there is no any initiative to start a new digital publishing business.
“Although Facebook isn’t planning to start publishing digital books, the ideas and technology behind Push Pop Press will be integrated with Facebook,” – Official blog post from Push Pop Press
“We can’t wait for co-founders Mike Matas and Kimon Tsinteris to get started, and for some of the technology, ideas and inspiration behind Push Pop Press to become part of how millions of people connect and share with each other on Facebook,” – Facebook official statement
The statement might not stand true forever, the opportunity of getting into publishing field has rooted in somewhere. For example, Google has leveraged millions of users from Gmail, Picasa and other Google services for its Google+, the same way Facebook can do to leverage millions of Facebook users for digital publishing network.
Push Pop Press is well-known as innovative e-publishing start-up and recently it has published the digital version of Al Gore’s book – Our Choice. It seems, helping authors to convert physical books into digital ones is the new attractive app when it combines the “dead” text and images with “live” audio, video and also graphics.
How does it advantage Facebook? Just another second its users stay-on longer, is one step to its success. The Push Pop Press’s technology can help its users share richest information in an easiest way, therefore Facebook will probably refine its anticipated Facebook iPad app using this technology.
“We’re taking our publishing technology and everything we’ve learned and are setting off to help design the world’s largest book, Facebook.” – Mike Matas and Kimon Tsinteris, co-founders of Push Pop Press.
And nobody knows, the direction is yet a speculation. Perhaps as a reaction towards Google+, this move will be a surprising innovative fight. It is a good PR door-opening for Push Pop Press in this fresh digital publishing platform.
