Big names of Silicon Valley such as Jawed Karim, co-founder of YouTube, Shawn Fanning of Napster and Konstantin Guericke, founder of LinkedIn, to name a few, are set to come to Kuala Lumpur for the Silicon Valley Comes to Malaysia Symposium (SVC2M). The companies represented are valued over US$40 billion – making this event a must for all Malaysian entrepreneurs.
The SVC2M is to be held on October 20 and 21 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, organized by MSC Malaysia together with Global Entrepreneurship Sdn Bhd (GESB), with support from YouNoodle as the technology partner.
The two-day conference will give the opportunity for Malaysian technopreneurs to showcase their startup ideas to leading Silicon Valley’s entrepreneurs and learn the core set of entrepreneurship skills from them. The symposium is also aimed to give insights and tips for entrepreneurs on investment strategies by successful investors.
The symposium will feature 17 speakers of industry experts and renowned entrepreneurs including Steve Koskie, co-founder of DipDive.com; Christina A. Brodbeck, co-founder and CEO of TheIceBreak.com; Jonas Kjellberg, the vice-president of Sales at Skype; and Rebecca Hwang, co-founder and CEO of YouNoodle.com.
“SVC2M platform will offer Malaysians the chance to showcase their startup ideas to leading entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley, with the aim of transforming our nation’s entrepreneurs into high-growth global icons, giving them the opportunity to shine on the international stage and increasing Malaysia’s visibility and relevance as an ICT hub,” said Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, CEO of MDeC.
Admission is only via invitation, whereby interested Malaysian entrepreneurs are required to submit startup idea via an online application form to StartupMalaysia. Submission can be individual or teams up to three members. The closing date of submission is 10 October 2011.
Chosen entrepreneurs will take part in an intensive workshop, called the StartupExperience Innovation Camp (before the symposium) and also stand a chance to win a round trip to Silicon Valley where they will work with some Silicon Valley’s legends to pitch venture capitalists for funding.
Global Entrepreneurship Sdn Bhd (GESB) is a not-for-profit company and also the founder of StartupMalaysia, an initiative inspired by Startup America that aims to celebrate, inspire and accelerate high-growth entrepreneurship among locals.
